Vapors, I thought the Alpine Valley shows on 8/2 and 8/3 had Billy at both. I thought that was the first time they all played together. I could be wrong.

I thought hambam had a great question and I only responded based on what was listed on the Phil page, which documents his involvements. Alpine? Maybe I’m missing something. I’ll look some more. What more do you know?

actually Vapors you may be right. I thought the other ones shows were 8/2 and 8/3. I believe they are 8/3 and 8/4 which would make your post spot on

Hey lobster, that 8/2 show I first mentioned was in 1997, a Furthur Festival All-Star jam at Shoreline. The 6/4/98 show as The Other Ones was a benefit at the Warfield. They played Alpine on that summer tour, and again in 2000, but the 8/3 and 8/4 dates weren’t until 2002.
According to wiki, Billy didn’t join in until 2000, when Phil dropped out - he rejoined in 2002 (and Bruce left.)

So as far as I can figure, the first time that all surviving original members played together was at Alpine on 8/3/2002.
Which was what you were trying say to begin with! :)

Good thread. I've always considered the 98 version of the Other Ones (with Kimock and Karan) to be the real first incarnation, but a good case could be made for the Alpine 2002 shows.

One of my favorite memories was seeing them for the first time in July of 98, and St. Stephen>The Eleven>Lovelight coming out of the silence late in the second set. At the time, that was just unheard of. Also brief memories of Phil doing Box of Rain. There are other memories, but much of the rest of the evening is lost.
